Diogo Dalot outlines what Manchester United players need to show Erik ten Hag in pre-season tour

Diogo Dalot is hopeful Manchester United can show an immediate change under Erik ten Hag as they prepare for their pre-season tour.

United's players report back to work next week following their short summer break, with a new manager now in place at Old Trafford. Ten Hag will get the chance to see his new squad up close as they reconvene back at Carrington before heading out on tour.

United go to Thailand for their first pre-season game against rivals Liverpool on July 12 in Bangkok, before making their way over to Australia. They take on Melbourne Victory on July 15, before facing Crystal Palace four days later on July 19.

A meeting with Aston Villa in Perth on July 23 rounds off their time down under, before they make their way to Norway to face Atletico Madrid on July 30. United then round off their pre-season preparations back at Old Trafford as Ten Hag takes charge of his first home game against Rayo Vallecano on July 31, before the Premier League season gets under way against Brighton on August 7.

“It’s great bringing fans to stadiums, back to football," Dalot told the club’s media. "That’s what football is about.

“To go travelling around the world, and see the love and support [our fans] have been showing, will be great. It will be a very good feeling to have them back in pre-season.

“I’m sure that you will start to see a few things, a few new ideas from the manager,” said the defender. “Hopefully, we can see great things and start to build our ideas. [We need to] train properly in the pre-season and hopefully start the season well.”

Dalot added: “It’s always exciting, as soon as we finish our holiday, to start again with this club and see the supporters that we all love from all over the world. We’re [going to] some great countries, with a lot of Man United fans there, so we’re looking forward to seeing them.

“Last time we had a pre-season, we went to Perth, so I’ve been there with the squad. I’ve never been to Melbourne or Bangkok, but they are some great places, so I’m looking forward to playing there.”
