Mauricio Pochettino has already been handed a major blow to his hopes of signing Diogo Costa. The 23-year-old goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League recently, with Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham all eager to further bolster their options between the sticks this summer.
Costa, who sees his contract at the Estádio do Dragão expire in 2027, featured 33 times for Porto in the Primeira Liga last season, keeping an impressive 16 clean sheets. The Portugal international's eye-catching performances have reportedly courted the interest of several top clubs in Europe, but he's expected to cost a pretty penny.
According to Portuguese outlet Record, Costa is on the Blues' list of options to replace Edouard Mendy, who's expected to pen a deal in Saudia Arabia soon. The report states that neither Porto nor the player's representatives are yet to receive a 'concrete proposal' from the west Londoners yet.
However, Record add that super agent Jorge Mendes, who has a 'close connection' with both parties, could initiate contact regarding a potential transfer, which could cost around €75million (£64.2m). While Chelsea have proven to have no issue with splashing the cash, Costa seems to be in no rush to relocate.
Earlier this month, the Portuguese shot-stopper was asked for his thoughts on reports linking him with a move to Old Trafford. Speaking to the press after Porto's win in the Taça de Portugal, Costa insisted that he hopes to continue at Porto.
As quoted by the Manchester Evening News, he said: "That’s the internet. It is a happiness and an honour to play for my favourite club. What they say is what they say, there is nothing concrete, I have a contract until 2027 and I hope to continue, let’s see."
Then on David De Gea, Costa added: "I will not say he'll always be my No.1 because in a club like Man United there must be competition in all positions. You can’t do it with 11 players. It is impossible. You need double positions."

If Costa remains consistent in his stance – even after Chelsea have registered their interest – then his comments come as quite the blow. The Blues are said to be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, with Pochettino eager to replace Mendy and bring in some competition for Kepa Arrizbalaga.
