Dimitar Berbatov issues Manchester United transfer verdict on Harry Kane

Dimitar Berbatov does not expect Harry Kane to leave Tottenham next summer amid interest from Manchester United and Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Having allowed Cristiano Ronaldo to move on mid-season, United are playing the waiting game in their search for a new striker. Key figures at the club are monitoring Kane in that respect.

Victor Osimhen from Napoli is also drawing interest. However, with Kane only having 18 months left on his contract with Tottenham, there are lingering question marks over his immediate future.

His winner against Manchester City saw him break Spurs' all-time goalscoring record this month, surpassing the late, great Jimmy Greaves on 267 goals in all competitions including 17 in the Premier League this season. But Berbatov, who played for Tottenham and United, has warned him over any would-be transfer.

Berbatov, speaking in his role as a Betfair ambassador, said: "First of all, is it going to be another saga of Harry Kane being linked with a move somewhere and nothing happens? This is something that's happened in the last couple of transfer windows. Based on that, I don't believe that a move will happen. Harry Kane's legacy at Tottenham is so big, especially with him becoming the greatest goalscorer in the club's history, that a move to another team in the Premier League could tarnish it."

Berbatov, who left Spurs for United in 2008 added: "A move a few years ago would have been a bit more acceptable, in terms of his legacy, but I don't believe a move is going to materialise. Harry becoming Tottenham's all-time leading goalscorer is a great achievement. He fully deserves it."
