Dillon Danis finally opens up on Khabib vs Conor McGregor post-fight brawl

Dillon Danis has explained his involvement in the post-fight brawl after Conor McGregor's loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov.

McGregor was submitted by Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October 2018 but the event will mostly be remembered for the ugly scenes that took place after the fight. Just moments after Nurmagomedov tapped out McGregor with a neck crank in the fourth round he turned his attention to Danis, who was in McGregor's corner.

Nurmagomedov leapt over the cage and attacked Danis before the scuffle was broken up by security. The teammates of Nurmagomedov watched on in the cage before getting into an altercation of their own with McGregor. Danis insisted he could have sued Nurmagomedov whilst reflecting on the chaotic scenes in a recent chat with Chael Sonnen.

"I could have sued him for a crazy amount of money," Danis said. "A fighter jumps over the cage when I'm cornering, I'm not paying attention. I'm getting punched from behind, it's crazy. I obviously took it for whatever it was because that's just how I am, but it's f***ed up. In the lead-up, we were all going back and forth with each other.

"People don't know that during the fight, when he was up against the cage, he was motioning things to me with his face and fingers. In between rounds when I was behind Conor, I was looking across at him and he was screaming at me and trying to come towards us. I could already tell he was hostile and then after the fight, he was pointing and screaming at me, so I said, 'Come here,' and he came over just like that, it was crazy."

Nurmagomedov went on to defend his lightweight against Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje after beating McGregor before retiring from fighting, despite McGregor's best attempts to lure him into a rematch. 'The Eagle' said he was angry with McGregor's whole corner team but didn't want to attack coaches Owen Roddy and John Kavanagh because of the age difference between them.

"I jumped on him because the cornerman were too old," Nurmagomedov said. "He is almost like my age, if I jumped on Kavanagh I don't think it's.... Kavanagh can't fight me, that's why I jumped on him [Danis]. I didn't hear him during the fight because it was too loud, but I don't like his whole team."
