Diet expert Michael Mosley has shared some invaluable advice with people hoping to beat their sugary cravings. Dieters hoping to lose weight will know that cutting out sweet treats is one of the hardest hurdles to overcome.
The health expert admitted during his BBC Sounds show, Just One Thing, that ten years ago he was 'shocked' to discover that he had type 2 diabetes. But he managed to get his blood sugars under control by losing nine kilograms.
However, the doctor, who is famed for the Fast 800 and 5:2 diets, still gets 'mad, crazy cravings' for sugary food and has now identified that the best way of satisfying this urge is to eat fruit.

He told the podcast: "I've heard claims that fruit has sugar and so is no better for you than a piece of cake, but although fruit does contain sugar it also contains fibre and that makes a big difference to how quickly sugar is absorbed and processed. Eating more fibre may even reduce sugary cravings.
"The other thing which is important to point out, is that fruit, particularly the skin, contains lots of vitamins and polyphenols which help feed the good bacteria in your gut. So swapping out your sugars for some fruit, like this pear here, comes with a long list of health benefits."
And for people wondering what is the best snack for when they are feeling peckish in between meals, Dr Mosley said in another episode that nuts were the ideal option.
He said: "It is mid-afternoon and I am craving some chocolate or perhaps a biscuit, but instead I am going for a protein-packed snack that can protect my heart, may stave off cancer, and give my brain a boost.
"I am cracking out the nuts."
He hailed nuts as "nutritional power-houses" and told listeners they contained lots of fibre and polyphenols. This is what feeds our gut bacteria and reduces inflammation.
