Torn between pride and devastation, Sydney midfielder James Rowbottom can at least feel excitement for the AFL club's rising young stars.

A fatigued Swans outfit fell short of an AFL grand final berth after Fremantle pulled off a fourth-quarter comeback to claim a 12-point preliminary final win at the SCG.
