NEW DELHI: Australia achieved their first win in the 2023 ODI World Cup with a convincing five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in their third league game on Monday. Mitchell Marsh played a crucial role with a match-winning knock of 52 runs, enabling Australia to comfortably chase down the target of 210 runs with 14.4 overs to spare.
Chasing a modest target, Australia encountered a shaky beginning, losing both David Warner and Steve Smith on successive deliveries. However, the fifties from Marsh and Josh Inglis (58) played a pivotal role in ensuring Australia's comfortable victory. Marsh was particularly outstanding as an opener, taking on the Sri Lankan bowlers with nine boundaries in his brilliant 52-run innings.
