Didi Hamann disagrees with Jurgen Klopp's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain claim over Liverpool future

Dietmar Hamann believes Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's time with Liverpool is over despite Jurgen Klopp's claims on the midfielder prior to their win over Aston Villa.

The former Arsenal-man made a rare Premier League start for the Reds for their trip to the Midlands after Roberto Firmino's absence from the squad continued.

Recently, Oxlade-Chamberlain has suffered with ongoing injuries which have made it difficult for him to break back into the German's plans after a promising start to his career at Anfield.

He returned to the fold against Manchester City where he made a bright impact as a substitute before starting against Unai Emery's side - lasting 67 minutes before he made way.

Oxlade-Chamberlain's contract is set to expire in the summer and ahead of their Boxing Day win, Klopp was quizzed over his future but played down talks of a departure.

He told Amazon Prime: "First and foremost Ox is a brilliant player and he is an even better person so I know about the situation but the situation for a professional footballer comes in from time to time.

"We can’t think too much about the summer but Ox is fit and back and he was back before the break but not 100 per cent fit then, now he is.

"He’s had top, top preparations and unfortunately he got ill before the City game so he would’ve started there. Hopefully he can keep that shape going, we would be happy for that and the future would be bright for everybody."

Former Germany international, Hamann, had a different outlook on his Reds career. The Champions League winner believes the England midfielder is set for pastures new, telling Stadium Astro : “Oxlade-Chamberlain did okay today but I think his time is up as well.”
