An attorney representing Sean “Diddy” Combs stated in court on Tuesday that the federal indictment against him exceeded their expectations, particularly in light of the numerous lawsuits filed by multiple accusers over the past year.
The attorney, Marc Agnifilo, argued for Combs to be allowed to remain out of jail pending his trial on charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. Agnifilo emphasized that the case revolves around one victim and a 10-year relationship that included consensual interactions with a third party. He pointed out that the indictment does not allege lack of consent from any party involved.
In response, Assistant US Attorney Emily Johnson disputed Agnifilo's assertions, clarifying that the prosecution is indeed proceeding on the basis of lack of consent. Johnson emphasized that the case involves multiple victims, contrary to Agnifilo's characterization.
Since November of the previous year, Combs has faced a total of 10 lawsuits, with nine directly accusing him of sexual assault.
