- A New South Wales parliamentary inquiry has heard that serial killer Ivan Milat may be linked to up to 31 additional murders and disappearances.
- Inquiry chair Jeremy Buckingham revealed police identified 17 cases potentially linked to Milat alongside 14 other missing persons cases.
- Former prosecutor Mark Tedeschi KC expressed longstanding suspicions regarding Milat, whilst former officers highlighted the 1987 murder of Peter David Letcher as a case police were certain Milat committed.
- The inquiry heard that Milat avoided prison in 1971 following acquittals for rape and armed robbery amid allegations of witness interference.
- Inquiry chair Buckingham has called for a judicial commission and a new police taskforce to re-examine cold cases, with the inquiry due to report in February 2027.
