The abuse heaped on Diane Abbott (Biggest Tory donor said looking at Diane Abbott makes you ‘want to hate all black women’, 11 March) has been going on for a long time. I am ashamed of all our political parties. They have stood by and done nothing. Perhaps Keir Starmer should be the most ashamed as he should have protected her. Instead, he cast her out. Shame on you all, but shame on you, Keir, the most.

• Re your special report on violence against women (Killed women count, 8 March), perhaps we need a statue to commemorate the women killed by men. It could be a way to both recognise and symbolise these lost female lives. Each year, the total number of women killed could be added to the statue, with a service of recognition, following the reading of the names in parliament. It would have a permanence that media reports lack, and serve as a visible record of the lives lost.

• Thank you for your project highlighting violence against women. It’s a brilliant initiative, both timely and chilling. Well done.

• I am not holding my breath waiting for the wife of the managing director of British Sugar to introduce measures to tackle obesity (Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall: ministers doing ‘next to nothing’ to tackle obesity, 10 March).

• Something the BBC does better than all the others (Letters, 6 March)? Commercial breaks.
