The CBI on Saturday conducted searches in eight premises in Mumbai and Pune in connection with the Yes Bank–Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Limited (DHFL) fraud. The premises included the houses of builders — Ashwini Bhonsale, Shahid Balwa and Vinod Goenka — because the Central agency suspects that their private companies were involved in the case.
On April 28, the CBI arrested Mumbai–based realtor Sanjay Chhabria of Radius Developers in the case. He has been remanded in CBI custody by court till May 6.
As per the CBI, Rana Kapoor, then promoter and CEO of Yes Bank, entered into a criminal conspiracy with Kapil Wadhawan, promoter and director of the DHFL and others in 2018-2019 for extending financial assistance to it by Yes Bank Limited in lieu of substantial undue benefit to himself and his family members through the companies held by them.
The CBI states that the Yes Bank Limited invested ₹3,700 crore in the short–term debentures of the DHFL between April and June 2018. Simultaneously, Mr. Wadhawan allegedly paid a kickback of ₹600 crore to Mr. Kapoor and his family members in the garb of builder loan. It has been learnt that the DHFL has not redeemed the ₹3,700 crore invested by the Yes Bank in its debentures till date.
