Dexter is back — but not like you know him! The latest spin-off series in the Dexter universe is Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel that focuses on Dexter’s history and what made him, well, obsessed with murder.
I personally LOVE an origin story, so I can’t wait to see what the writers have cooked up. It’s set in Miami in 1991, so the locations and costumes are going to be elite. The cast is kinda random, but I’m not complaining.
We’ll get to see Dexter’s father Harry, played by Christian Slater, McDreamy Patrick Dempsey and special guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar. And against all odds, original Dexter star Michael C. Hall will be returning! He’s voicing the inner monologue heard in Dexter’s head during each episode.
When will Dexter: Original Sin be released in Australia?
The first episode of Dexter: Original Sin will premiere on Paramount+ in Australia on Friday, 13 December. Spooky! Episodes will then drop weekly, the same day as the US.
What’s the plot of Dexter: Original Sin and how does it relate to Dexter?
The 10-episode series follows Dexter as he makes the jump from student to serial killer. Once those killer urges start to emerge, his father is the one to introduce the idea of a Code. By killing only those who deserve to die, the Code also helps keep Dexter off the cops’ radar.
When he’s not busy murdering people, Dexter is also undergoing a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. Pretty handy for him to learn all those skills of how *not* to get caught cutting bodies up!
Who is in the cast for Dexter: Original Sin?
Newbie Patrick Gibson is taking on the role of Dexter, and there are a bunch of other big names in the mix. Along with Christian Slater as his father and Dexter’s internal monologue voiced by Michael C. Hall, the other cast includes Patrick Dempsey, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu and Reno Wilson.
What have the cast said about Dexter: Original Sin?
Sarah Michelle Gellar is playing the character of Tanya Martin, the head of a department at the Miami Metro Police. She told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year that her role is to add a bit of comic relief.
“It’s fun to sort of inadvertently be the character that teaches Dexter everything he needs to know to be a really good serial killer, but all the while not knowing that you’re doing it,” she said.
She also warned fans not to get too comfy or attached to characters, because you never know who Dexter will take down.
“It’s Dexter — everybody should be worried. Even some characters in the [original series] that you never thought would be victims of him wound up being his victims. So [you] can’t ever be too careful on a show like this,” she said.
Michael C. Hall also told EW the scripts “are fantastic” and he can’t wait to watch the show as a fan.
