Dexter Lawrence says Giants defense wants to ‘go kick somebody’s’ butt

The first six weeks of the season have been an absolute disaster for the New York Giants after coming into the year with hopes of building off their return to the playoffs.

The coaches and players are certainly trying to right the ship in a hurry and get things turned around.

Dexter Lawrence, one of the captains of the defense, made it clear the Giants are out to make a statement as they continue to gel.

“I think a lot of guys on defense just have the same mindset and the want to. Our mindset is just to go kick somebody’s (expletive), for real. Just go out there and play faster, harder, longer than the other team plays, and the results will handle themselves, and just keep believing. They make a big play, it’s the NFL. It’s going to happen. Go to the next one, and we’ll make that stop. Get them down so we’ve got a place to stand,” Lawrence told reporters on Thursday.

The defense will have a great opportunity to make an impact on Sunday going up against an offense that has surrendered a league-high 34 sacks on the season.

Lawrence has yet to record a sack this season after racking up 7.5 sacks last year. However, he is more worried about the lack of wins than stats.

“That doesn’t quite bother me. What bothers me is the losing obviously,” he said. “The numbers will come when they come. I’m never stressing over numbers. I affect the game in a lot of ways. I’m going to keep doing that. If the perfect play comes, that’s a sack. Everything has to click. So, I’m never stressing over that.”

The Giants showed some fight this past Sunday against the Bills which carried over after the whistle blew a few times.

The defense will be leaned on heavily if they are going to be able to turn this season around with the offensive line decimated by injury.

Ideally, Wink Martindale’s defense can carry the momentum from last week and build off of it in their Week 7 matchup against the Washington Commanders.
