Dexter Lawrence on Giants fans who boo: ‘I don’t respect it’

New York Giants fans did not like what they saw on Sunday afternoon when their team got squashed by the Minnesota Vikings, 28-6, in the season opener at MetLife Stadium.

They booed and exited the game early as the Giants played a sloppy, uninspired game against a Vikings team that had Sam Darnold under center.

Giants Pro Bowl nose tackle Dexter Lawrence said he “doesn’t respect'” the fans’ decision to boo.

“I don’t respect it, honestly,” he said. “I get it, they want to see their team win. It’s just a rough patch. It is what it is.”

The Giants came into this season with renewed optimism after last year’s 6-11 finish. Head coach Brian Daboll took over the play calling and promised to throw the ball more downfield to his young receiving corps of Malik Nabers, Jalin Hyatt, and Wan’Dale Robinson.

On Sunday, they had just one completion over 15 yards. In addition, the execution was a mess, marred with penalties, turnovers, and missed opportunities.

Defensively, outside of Lawrence, the effort was pitiful. They made Darnold look like an All-Pro.

How can anyone be expected to cheer for that?
