At this late point in the season, there are exactly zero fully-healthy NFL teams right now. That includes the Seahawks, who are dealing with injuries to two of their most-important players.
Geno Smith is expected to return for this week’s road matchup against the Titans, but elbow and groin issues have kept him on the sidelines for the last two games. The other major injury is that of rising star rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon. Spoon has been brilliant in his first year in the league but he suffered a hip pointer injury against the 49ers and sat out for the team’s Monday night game against the Eagles.
Based on head coach Pete Carroll’s post-game comments, it sounds like Witherspoon may be out a while longer. Carroll says Spoon has a “really deep and really painful” issue with his hip.
Devon Witherspoon has a “legit” issue with his hip, Pete said. “It’s really deep and really painful.”
“I can’t imagine that he won’t be able to make it back. That’s me wishful thinking. We need him back out there.”
Said Artie Burns played well, tho.

This is just an unqualified bummer for the Seahawks and the game of football in general. Witherspoon is one of the top three performers in the 2023 draft class along with Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter and Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud.
On the bright side, with Witherspoon out Carroll put Artie Burns in the slot against Philadelphia and he played quite well. Seattle’s unmatched depth at cornerback is proving to be a great asset.
