Capcom’s stylish demon-hunting series, Devil May Cry, has been on the back burner for seven years, with no new mainline entry in sight. However, that could change soon, as a new rumor suggests Devil May Cry 6 will be announced at PlayStation’s next State of Play event.
The information comes from X user, TripleSevven_, who claims that Devil May Cry 6 will support Arabic language, and will most likely be announced at the next Sony Event. Naturally, the user’s bold claim about DMC 6 was picked up and posted on the Gaming Leaks and Rumors Subreddit, sparking debates and discussions among fans.
As of this writing, PlayStation has not announced its next State of Play event. Nor have there been any hints from Capcom about any new game announcements recently, Devil May Cry or otherwise, as the company gears up to launch two big titles, Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata, in the coming weeks.
That said, Capcom’s games tend to appear at State of Play, with the Resident Evil 4 remake announced during Sony’s June 2022 event, so there’s always a possibility. However, there’s plenty of evidence suggesting it might be too soon for everyone’s favourite demon-hunting duo to return.
Is it too early for a Devil May Cry 6 announcement?

Despite it being almost seven years since the last mainline entry in the franchise, things aren’t looking too bright, but also not completely dark for DMC 6. Hideaki Itsuno, the creative director for Devil May Cry 2-5, left Capcom in late 2024 to form a new AAA studio, LightSpeed Japan.
Later, in an interview with VGC, Itsuno explained how he had already made what he wanted to make with Devil May Cry 5 and Dragon’s Dogma 2, in the context of those franchises, and that this latest project is his last chance to challenge himself and create something new.
In that same interview, Itsuno also revealed that “for Capcom, creating Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma sequels is the top priority,” thus suggesting that there’s room for sequels even if he’s not there.
Interestingly enough, Devil May Cry’s creator, Hideki Kamiya, recently formed his own independent studio, which has collaborated with Capcom to develop Okami 2. It wouldn’t be too far-fetched if Capcom manages to convince Kamiya’s new studio to take the helm of the DMC franchise, though it’s too early to think about this possibility, as Okami 2 is still early in development.
It’s worth noting that Capcom already has four major single-player game releases up its sleeve: Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and Mega Man: Dual Override. As such, even if a new Devil May Cry game is in development, an announcement, even if it’s imminent, has plenty of chances of skipping the next State of Play.
