Devastated mum of Lexi McDavid 'missing a piece of her heart'

The mum of Lexi McDavid said she is "missing a piece of her heart".

Hundreds of friends and family met in Huyton Village to mourn Lexi who died after being hit by a van as she got off a bus on Princess Drive in Huyton on Tuesday, June 7. The vigil saw singers perform some of the 12-year-old's favourite songs and family members give their own tributes.

One of Lexi's aunties, Kim, took to a podium and to give a tribute to Lexi, who she described as "hysterical" and an "absolute sassy pants". She also gave a tribute on behalf of Lexi's mum.

She said: "Lexi you were the most loving, caring and absolutely hysterical little girl in the world. We would say you had no idea how much you were loved, but the truth is Lex, you really did already know it.

"You lit up every room you went in, just with your sassiness alone. You were literally 12 going on 22. The way you used to walk into my house and just take your sassy self into my room and steal my entire wardrobe - not even letting me have a say in it.

"Like I said, absolute sassy pants. Lex it is the little things we will miss the most and cherish forever, like you and your sister forcing me to take you to Starbucks near-enough every single day.

"You wearing mine and your mum's heels, dancing like you were in the club. I did always say I'd be the one who takes you to town for your first nightclub."

Aunty Kim went on to talk about how strong her mum was being, and how they promised to look after her sisters.

She said: "Lexi you have left a massive hole in all of our hearts, life will never ever be the same without you. Not being able to hear that infectious laugh of yours every single day when you're coming in and winding your nanny up, will be the struggle.

"Your mummy is trying to be so strong, but needs you to know she's missing you so much. Not seeing your face around the house every single day.

"You meant the world to her and your sisters, she needs to let you know she's missing a piece of her heart that you took with you on your new journey. We know you will be dancing in the sky and watching over all of us and we promise we will take good care of your sisters.

"We love you always and forever, out beautiful angel Lex. Keep shining baby girl."

Lexi's 12-year-old twin sister also spoke at the vigil and told the crowd she would "never forget" and "always miss" her sister.

She said: "When somebody told us to go to bed and we would be standing at our doorways sending each other messages or FaceTiming, and our pamper nights I will really miss, that and a lot more. Our little Jammy Dodger.

"I will love her no matter what, if we are together or apart. Lexi is that gift I never asked for but always wanted. She was and is my world, we will never forget you and we will always miss our little Lexi."

The vigil started with a touching minute's applause for Lexi. Speakers played out Dancing in the Sky by Dani and Lizzy and live performers sang some of her favourite songs.

Donation buckets were provided at the event and two donation pages are online from both the mum and dad's side of the family.
