Doctors at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit have treated the first two patients in the United States in a clinical trial of a catheter procedure that uses radiofrequency energy on the nerves surrounding the pulmonary artery, in an attempt to lower blood pressure inside the lungs of people whose heart failure has made it dangerously high.
The device maker Pulnovo Medical announced the enrollments on Sunday. The study, called PULSE-LHD, is running under a Food and Drug Administration investigational device exemption, and its trial registration record describes it as multicenter, randomized, and placebo-procedure-controlled.
