Detectives investigating Elle Edwards murder tipped off about 'wider tensions'

Detectives investigating the murder of Elle Edwards have received multiple tip-offs about "individuals and wider tensions", according to Merseyside Police.

The force thanked the public for providing "nearly 150 pieces of intelligence" about the Christmas Eve shooting, at the Lighthouse Inn in Wallasey Village. Merseyside Police said critical information, including CCTV footage, had been passed to detectives either directly or confidentially via Crimestoppers.

The killer opened fire shortly before midnight, fatally wounding popular 26-year-old beautician Elle and also leaving four other men, aged between 22 and 33, with injuries. Since then three people have been arrested, including a 30-year-old man on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. He has since been released under investigation, but also recalled to prison for breaching the terms of his licence.

A 19-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man were also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, and later released on bail.

Detective Superintendent Sue Coombs, who is leading the investigation team, said: "I would like to personally thank each and every person who has already come forward to tell us what they know.

“This is a fast moving and complex investigation and each piece of information is a vital piece of the puzzle to help us to understand what happened in the Lighthouse pub on Christmas Eve."

The force said each piece of intelligence is examined and "where appropriate further developed" as detectives work round the clock to get justice for Elle and her family.

DS Coombs added: "I would continue to ask people to come forward and tell us what they know. Even though we have received a lot of information from the public it is still important that people continue to speak to us.

"If they don’t want to speak to police directly then please get in touch with Crimestoppers where information can be given in confidence.

“The people responsible for Elle’s death do not deserve to be protected and Elle’s family deserve answers. There is a special Public Portal (mipp.police.uk) where information, CCTV and dashcam and mobile phone footage can be uploaded directly to the investigation team.

“Information can also be passed via 101, DM @MerPolCC or by contacting @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111."
