Detectives at scene and road closed amid reports of 'woman under a car'

Police closed off a road in Sholver on Wednesday evening (February 8) amid reports of a woman being under a car.

Emergency services attended the scene on Sholver Lane, near Oldham, and blocked off the road following the incident. Witnesses reported seeing 'around 30' people stood around a vehicle on Wednesday.

The fire service, paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service and police were at the scene for a number of hours, before house to house enquiries were carried out nearby.

One resident told the Manchester Evening News: "I just saw a load of blue lights and heard all the sirens. I couldn't see much from my upstairs window but there were definitely around 30 people all stood around a car at the side of the road."

Other people living nearby said they had seen a person who appeared to be underneath a vehicle, with the road remaining closed for a number of hours until around 9pm.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Just after 6pm this evening firefighters from Hollins and Oldham fire stations, and the Technical Response Unit from Ashton fire station rescued a woman who was trapped under a vehicle on Hillside Close in Oldham.

"Police officers, Ambulance crew, and firefighters worked together to save the woman who has now been taken to hospital."
