Butler County Sheriff Michael Slupe provided additional information regarding the incident involving Thomas Matthew Crooks, who shot former President Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania. According to Slupe, Butler Township police received reports about a suspicious individual outside the rally and initiated a search to locate the person.
Officers from Butler Township police began scouring the area and eventually discovered someone on the roof of a building. One officer assisted another in climbing onto the roof, where they encountered Crooks, who aimed a gun at one of the officers. In an attempt to evade the threat, the officer dropped off the roof, and Crooks proceeded to open fire on Trump shortly thereafter.
Following the gunfire, a U.S. Secret Service counter sniper swiftly responded by shooting and killing Crooks. It was revealed that the building from which Crooks fired was designated as a 'rally point' for one of the local counter sniper teams, as confirmed by a federal law enforcement official familiar with the security arrangements.
The source further disclosed that a counter sniper team was either stationed within or in close proximity to the building. Notably, there were a total of four counter sniper teams present at the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, comprising two teams from the Secret Service and two from local law enforcement.
