Bungie detailed a new planet-side event called Distortions coming to Destiny 2 with the Monument of Triumph final update on June 9, alongside plenty of reprised loot across multiple activities.
Announced in a blog post on May 28, Distortions is an event coming to Destiny 2 that appears every hour on one of the seven Destinations. During the Distortion, the enemies on the planet become tougher and more aggressive. You may also discover some familiar challenges in new places and hidden rewards.
Distortions offer a new weapon set that you can earn by patrolling and completing Public Events. This is on top of the updated world loot pool, which now features tiered gear from multiple different eras and seasons of Destiny 2.
Some of the weapons and their sources teased by Bungie include:
- High Albedo (now a Kinetic rocket sidearm): Europa
- Pluperfect (Kinetic auto rifle): Nessus
- Seventh Seraph CQC-12 (Solar shotgun): Cosmodrome
- Spare Rations (now a Stasis hand cannon): Gambit
- 21% Delirium (Arc machine gun): Gambit
In the meantime, Portal is getting some changes as well. Simplified scoring now guarantees a reward rank at a set difficulty without any modifiers. The Portal doesn’t have a dedicated tab anymore. Instead, you can access it through the icons on the Destinations map, like the Vanguard icon. There, the game provides easy access to all activities, including raids and dungeons.
There are several returning strikes and Exotic missions, but there’s even more loot. On top of the Destination loot, there’s new loot for PvP and Gambit, Holofoil drops, and the entire reprisal of the Brave Arsenal from the Into the Light update. With Onslaught going back to the old escalating difficulty format, it’s about to bring back the feel of one of the most exciting times in Destiny 2, although in not-so-exciting days.
PvP-wise, Iron Banner now returns every four weeks. Trials of Osiris continues to run every weekend, and Heavy Metal is a permanent mode. Some of the new additions to Heavy Metal include the Behemoth Cabal walker and a new map
Last but not least is the Sparrow Racing League (SRL). Bringing back four original maps and one new map, SRL allows you to hop onto the Sparrow (or Skimmer) to earn rewards, from cosmetics to foundry-themed weapons.
Bungie promises more information regarding the sandbox changes in the final Destiny 2 update in another blog post and TWID on May 29.
