Destiny 2 developer Bungie has confirmed that an in-game message that revealed Warlocks had won the Guardian Games two weeks before the end of the event was "sent out erroneously".
The confusing message – which said, "Warlocks earned the most medallions and won this year's games!" – popped up in the game just a couple of days after a separate message declared that Titans were in the lead, leading to a lot of confusion and some very excellent "stop the count" jokes.
The studio stopped short of apologizing but did confirm that as the Games event doesn't end until May 23, "the winning class has not been officially announced yet".
"We're aware that an in-game message announcing the winner of Guardian Games was sent out erroneously," Bungie announced via a tweet.
"Guardian Games still have two weeks left, and the winning class has not been officially announced yet."

A few weeks ago, Bungie laid down the law after a Destiny 2 community summit led to a big Season 21 leak, despite the accused streamer still denying what the studio calls "irrefutable evidence".
In a tweet also posted on the Destiny 2 Team Twitter account, Bungie said, "Our Security and Legal teams have reviewed irrefutable evidence, including video recordings, verified messages, and images demonstrating a pattern over time that confirm the same individual shared confidential information from Community Summits spanning multiple years.
"We are very disappointed to have learned this information and wish that things had gone differently with this person. We do not take these actions lightly, and we are confident in our decision. This is our final communication on the matter."
And did you catch the news that it looks like League of Legends and Valorant developer Riot Games is recruiting for an unannounced project that sounds similar to Destiny 2?
According to a recent job listing posted on Riot's website, the company is on the hunt for a game designer to work on an "unpublished R&D product". It states that applications should have a "deep familiarity with long-form progression systems from multiple angles", whilst another position is looking for someone with a "deep insight into modern progression systems in MMO FPS, Competitive Shooter, and season-driven ARPG games".
Here are the new games of 2023 and beyond that really just can't wait for.
