Despite Celtic buying an £11m striker, Shankland is under more 'pressure' at Rangers

Celtic are close to securing a record-breaking deal for Denmark international Kasper Hogh.

The move would make the Bodo/Glimt forward the club's most expensive signing ever, with the total package reportedly worth around £11 million plus add-ons.

As the 25-year-old arrives in the UK to complete the move ahead of the new Premiership campaign, former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has shared his thoughts with the Scottish Sun.

He said: "It’s a statement from Celtic, £11 million, that’s a lot of money."

However, he thinks that Rangers' new signing, Lawrence Shankland, will face more pressure to perform for his club. Shankland joined Rangers from Hearts earlier this summer and is expected to lead the line for the club.

Despite the minimal transfer fee for Shankland, Boyd believes he carries greater expectations than Hogh. He said: "I would say Lawrence Shankland is under more pressure.

"Because at the end of the day, Celtic have been winning. Rangers are the ones who need to try and topple Celtic."

Boyd also praised Celtic's recruitment approach this summer, noting a shift in strategy. In his view, the club is now focusing on strengthening the starting XI rather than merely adding to the squad.

He said: "In the last few transfer windows, Celtic have just added bodies. It looks as if they’re now looking at the starting XI and saying we need to strengthen that.

"That’s exactly what they’ve done."

He further added that Celtic's new signings are crucial for the club's future success. He said: "These signings are big for Celtic.

"They are coming in to start, and that is key."

The former Rangers man also highlighted the club’s ambitions and the importance of these signings in achieving their goals. "Celtic fans were still angry for the majority of last season but still lifted two trophies, so I think that shows you where they are right now.

"They want to be dominant, they want to kick on," he said.
