A mum has issued a desperate plea to her local council to carry out necessary adaptations to her son's bedroom because he suffers from a rare condition that causes him to eat things such as wallpaper and floor coverings. Caitlyn McLaughlin says the specialist work needs to be carried out in her five-year-old boy's room in order to keep him safe.
She says she is constantly worried that Barry, aged 5, will hurt himself. Caitlyn has been in a two-year battle with the council for the adaptations to be carried out.
The youngster has autism, a speech delay, as well as rare disorder Pica which causes him to eat things like wall coverings and requires materials around him which he cannot try and eat or rip up. Caitlyn, of Alexandria in Scotland, said his room has only a bed in it as they await the work required to give him a safe space to call his own, the Daily Record reports.
