They've queued in the rain, slow and freezing cold this winter. According to West End Food Bank welfare manager Carole Rowland, they will be queuing in the heat of the sun during the summer.
From mothers collecting a parcel of food, nappies and giant bags of rice for their large families to single men who can't make ends meet living alone, all human life is there. And all are treated with respect and dignity by the food bank's cheerful team of volunteers.
The shocking reality of running out of food - and not having cash to buy any more - can happen to anyone, says Carole. She reckons she's seen engineers, nurses and even teachers come through the doors at The Venerable Bede Church Hall, on Newcastle's West Road, in the five years she's been involved.
