'Desire' - Simon Jordan makes Leeds United survival claim ahead of pivotal weekend

TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has backed Leeds United to stay in the Premier League. The Whites currently sit in the bottom three on goal difference and have played a game more than both Burnley and Everton – the two sides around them.

But the battle to beat the drop is far from over and Leeds will be looking to return to winning ways this weekend when they host an inform Brighton side, who have already secured their highest ever Premier League points tally. Burnley, meanwhile, make the trip to top four chasing Tottenham Hotspur, who will be buoyed by their 3-0 win over North London rivals Arsenal on Thursday.

Leeds know that this is a pivotal weekend and due to Burnley’s game in hand, will want to end Sunday above the Clarets to pile the pressure on their trip to Aston Villa. Speaking on talksSPORT, Jordan believes that ‘desire’ will see the Whites earn all three points against Brighton, which would put them in the box seat for survival.

He said: “If they beat Brighton, and it is a big if, don’t forget the Brighton situation against Manchester United. They couldn’t have played against a more under aroused, gutless team on the pitch last week.

“Leeds aren’t going to be gutless and under aroused, the challenge is they’re going to be over aroused and they’ll need to manage that. Burnley, we would expect by the logic we’ve discussed are going to get bashed into the next life by Tottenham.

“Then Burnley have got Villa again and those results can go one way or the other. They can either respond to it or get done again. Then it’s the last game at home to Newcastle.

“I do think there’s still a punchers chance for Leeds and I think they will beat Brighton, one way or another because they’ll have more desire in this game than Brighton will have. That puts everything back on Burnley, if they get smashed by Spurs on the weekend all of a sudden it’s game on.

“Then they’ve got Brentford, I know it’s a parade, but it isn’t a parade for Leeds. Leeds will take 6000 fans down to Brentford stadium and they’ll make it a fortress in the reverse.”
