A public consultation has been launched into a proposed new apartment development in Birmingham city centre reaching 46 storeys.
Court Collaboration is behind the project which would see the multi-storey car park in Brindley Drive near to Library of Birmingham demolished to make for the new residential project. A consultation has commenced ahead of a planning application being lodged with Birmingham City Council by the end of this year.
The plans comprise two towers, of 15 and 46 storeys respectively, containing 581 one- and two-bedroom apartments to rent only alongside amenities for residents including a rooftop garden, co‑working space and a gym.
Subject to consent, work is set to be completed on the scheme by the end of 2026. The project has been designed by global architecture practice CallisonRTKL.
This latest stage of the project follows the news in July that Birmingham-based Court Collaboration had struck a deal with US property investment fund PGIM Real Estate to finance the project.
Managing director Alex Neale said: "We're delighted to be at the pre-application public consultation stage of our plans for Brindley Drive and look forward to hearing people's thoughts.
"The development will set a new standard for city centre living, fusing style and comfort with sustainability, including solar, smart metering and a broad range of energy efficiency features."
CRTKL principal John Badman added: "This project will make a significant contribution to Birmingham's changing skyline and drive toward the city's 2040 vision.
"The design reflects the environmental, social and corporate governance ambitions of the city and the client and consultant teams.
"Together, we are delivering a building that responds to the historic urban fabric and the character of this emerging and dynamic mixed-use neighbourhood."
The application site sits very close to the £1.2 billion Paradise project and directly opposite the site of the new 49-storey Octagon apartment tower which is being built as part of that scheme.
Court Collaboration currently has seven active developments across the West Midlands containing around 4,500 residential units, either on site or at planning stages.
Its other projects in Birmingham include New Garden Square, on the Calthorpe Estate in Edgbaston, and the proposed 51-storey One Eastside apartment tower in Jennens Road.
