A British fashion designer has created a £2,089 pair of boots in the forms of a Teletubby. And most shoppers it turns out are a big fan of the lime-green footwear.
Christian Cowan's latest range has paid tribute to Dipsy - the character from the hit 1990s children's show. The other Teletubbies also feature as muses in a fashion shoot with stunning models.
The high heel boots come in a neon green plush fabric and are part of a range aimed at fans of the original show, who are now parents themselves, reports BristolLive. Cowan, who is renowned for his exuberant and whimsical designs, was inspired in creating the new collection to merge the Teletubbies with iconic, playful fashion campaigns that graced billboards and magazine pages in the early nineties.
Cowan said: "I grew up watching the Teletubbies, so being able to combine that nostalgia with my passion for fashion is a dream come true. The characters’ fun, playful personalities match my own design aesthetic, so I’m excited to launch this new collection to show the Teletubbies in a new light and celebrate them as the stars that they are."
Fans on social media were left split by the new footwear. Taking to his Instagram to debut the boots, Cowan shared a carousel of snaps, accompanied by the words: “No caption necessary.”
The first photograph showed the lime green shoes against a white background, while the second sees them photoshopped on Anne Hathaway’s character Andrea in The Devil Wears Prada. Dozens of people commented on the range, one user wrote: “Bow in the presence of greatness," as another said: “Do they come in Tinky Winky?”
Celebrities were also joining in the debate, with Paris Hilton expressing her love for the footwear. “Need!” the Stars are Blind singer gushed, as the RuPaul’s Drag Race judge replied: “Facts.”
