Ulster champions Derry take on Monaghan on Saturday evening in Omagh in what is a repeat of last year’s semi-final meeting between the counties.
On that occasion, Rory Gallagher’s men prevailed 3-12 to 0-17 in the Athletic Grounds before going on to clinch their first provincial title in 24 with an extra-time victory over Donegal in Clones.
The Oak Leafers defeated Fermanagh by 12 points in their quarter-final tie in Brewster Park while Monaghan edged Tyrone in an epic encounter in Omagh the following day with Ryan O’Toole’s injury-time goal giving the Farney a 2-17 to 1-18 victory.
Vinny Corey’s men were five points adrift in that game and they’ll know they can ill-afford to give Derry such a headstart on Saturday evening against the defending champions.
