Major disruptions could be seen across Derry this afternoon after local police received a report that three devices had been left dotted across the city.

It is understood that the locations involved are the Diamond area, Shipquay Street, and Lisnagelvin.

The PSNI took to Twitter to confirm the incident and said: “We’re dealing with a report that 3 devices have been left at 3 locations in the city.

“Officers are at these scenes in The Diamond area, Shipquay Street & Lisnagelvin areas. We’ll work to keep disruption to a minimum, however, your safety is our priority. We’ll keep you updated.”

Diversions are in place in areas that have had to be cordoned off and officers have said people can expect delays.

PSNI Inspector Tim McCullough said: "We recognise that as we work to make these scenes safe, there may be an impact on traffic, to local residents and businesses.

"Our officers are at these scenes in The Diamond area, Shipquay Street area and Lisnagelvin area and we ask that you adhere to any directions in place.”

Mr. McCullough says they are working to disarm the situation before any major delays are felt however they “will not take any chances.

"We will work to keep disruption to a minimum, however, your safety is our priority and we will not take any chances.

"We ask for your co-operation and patience as we deal with these incidents and we will keep you updated."
