Derry Girls star 'wants to take bat to car' after driver shouts homophobic slurs at friends

Derry Girls star Siobhán McSweeney said she "wanted to take a bat to a car" after a homophobic slur was allegedly hurled from a passing car at some of her friends.

The Cork woman, who is best known for her role as the formidable Sister Michael in Channel 4 sitcom Derry Girls, posted a picture of the car to her Twitter after the incident.

She said that the driver wound down their window to shout a "homophobic slur" at her friends as they were leaving the cinema.

"I’m beyond furious. I want to take a bat to this car. How DARE he. HOW F**KING DARE HE," the 43-year-old actress and presenter wrote online.

One response said: "It's a hate crime. Report it."

Another tagged the Metropolitan Police UK Twitter account, informing them that a very clear number plate was on display in her tweet.

In response London's Metropolitan Police Service Contact Centre tagged Siobhán and told her to direct message the page for further assistance on reporting the hate crime.

Several replies to her post commended her for pointing out the homophobic incident and for bringing the perpetrator's car details to a public forum.

"You give your friends a Huge Hug from me. How dare that BMW driver be so homophobic. Put Yer best Sister Michael character on & deal with the Met Police. Then be sure to let us all know the outcomes," one invested commenter wrote.

Another, taking it further, said that someone will know who they work for, adding that "a quick email to his employer would be good."

Thanking the public for their support on her post, she informed that she had contacted the Metropolitan Police regarding the incident.

"It's just not acceptable. F**k that guy," the Derry Girls star added.
