Derry Girls star to be cast in Death in Paradise spin-off series for BBC

A Derry Girls star will join the cast of the new Death in Paradise spin-off series, Beyond Paradise, which will begin filming this week, RTE reports.

Dylan Llewellyn, who played James in the hit Channel 4 sitcom Derry Girls, has been cast in the new BBC series, that will commence filming in southwest England in the coming days. The series will see original Death in Paradise stars return to their roles, and new actors added to the list.

Kris Marshall and Sally Bretton will reprise their roles as Humphrey Goodman and Martha Lloyd respectively. Dylan will play a policeman in the show.

The BBC said: "Seeking a quieter life away from the stress of the city, Humphrey has taken a job as a Detective Inspector in fiancée Martha's hometown.

"However, they soon find that country life is anything but peaceful and Humphrey can't help but be distracted by the town's surprisingly high crime rate with a new, and very different, case challenging him and the team each week."

Dylan will take on the role of PC Kelby Hartford. He is joined by Zahra Ahmada, known for her role in The Bay, who plays DS Esther Williams. Felicity Montagu (This Time with Alan Partridge) will play office support civilian Margo Martins.

When the show was first announced back in June, lead star Kris Mashall said: "I had the best time playing Humphrey out in Guadeloupe and whilst I was delighted that he got his happy ending with Martha, I always wanted to know what happened next.

"So it's a joy to be putting his crumpled jacket back on and seeing how life has panned out for him back in the UK.

"Working with Sally is a dream, and I can't wait to continue Humphrey and Martha's story and solve a few seemingly impossible mysteries along the way."

Filming has commenced for Beyond Paradise this week. Check Dylan's social media accounts for more updates.
