Three new cast members have been confirmed to be joining the Death in Paradise spin-off series Beyond Paradise, alongside Kris Marshall and Sally Bretton. It comes as filming for the six-part series has started this week in the south west.
The BBC announced at the end of June Humphrey Goodman ,played by Marshall, would be making a return to our screens but not in a visit to Saint Marie. It was revealed he would return alongside his on-screen partner Martha, played by Bretton, as we pick up with the couple in their new life back in rural Britain.
And now three new members have been revealed. They include Channel 4's Derry Girls and Big Boys star Dylan Llewellyn as PC Kelby Hartford, The Bay and Tracey Ullman's Show's Zahra Ahmadi as DS Esther Williams and Alan Partridge and Landscapers star Felicity Montagu who will play office support civilian, Margo Martins.
The new series, which has been co-commissioned by BBC and BritBox International, will pick up with Humphrey, who has taken a job as a Detective Inspector in fiancée Martha’s hometown. But the couple soon find out "that country life is anything but peaceful" and the DI is soon "distracted by the town’s surprisingly high crime rate".
Speaking when the news was first announced in June, Marshall said: “I had the best time playing Humphrey out in Guadeloupe and whilst I was delighted that he got his happy ending with Martha, I always wanted to know what happened next. So it’s a joy to be putting his crumpled jacket back on and seeing how life has panned out for him back in the UK. Working with Sally is a dream, and I can’t wait to continue Humphrey and Martha’s story and solve a few seemingly impossible mysteries along the way.”
A new Twitter page seems to have been launched for the spin-off drama. @BeyondPOfficial on Twitter posted a picture of a clapperboard on August 2. The tweet read: "Filming has started on #BeyondParadise in the sunny south-west! From the makers of @deathinparadise, Kris Marshall & Sally Bretton reunite as Humphrey & Martha. They'll be joined by Zahra Ahmadi, @Djllewellyn & @felicitymontagu!".
Death in Paradise fans looking forward to the spin-off were delighted to see the new cast members confirmed. Tamzin tweeted: "Woohoo, so happy Kris Marshall will be back." whilst Nikki posted: "Awesome news...can't wait for this." @FrazzlesR added: "Ooooh a very good cast I initially thought this might be one spin-off too far but the three of them are excellent talents."
One of the show's creators Robert Thorogood tweeted: "I am so very, very excited about this show (just look at that cast!) and can't wait for everyone to see it next year."
