Sharing the trailer on St. Patrick's Day, the cast of Derry Girls gave viewers their first look at the final season.
Following four friends from Derry and their English tag along, Derry Girls will officially be returning to our screens after a three year hiatus. Penned to be the final series, the show has received an incredible reception since it first aired back in 2018.
Taking to Instagram to first break the news was Jamie Lee O'Donnell who plays the rough and rowdy Michelle Mallon. Quickly following suit was the official Channel 4 account with a caption that said: " The wait is over… they’re back! #DerryGirls, coming soon to Channel 4 #StPatricksDay #AltogetherDifferent"

Here's everything we know about Derry Girls series three so far.
Who in the cast is returning?
As far as we know, everyone. There have been no shock announcements or last minute drop offs from any of the cast which fans will be delighted to hear.
Nicola Coughlan will return as the awkward and lovable Claire as will Saoirse-Monica Jackson as the lead, Erin Quinn. 'The wee English fella', James Maguire, will be played by Dylan Llewellyn and Louisa Harland will be reprising her role as the quirky Orla McCool.
Fan favourites such as Sister Michael and Father Peter will also be returning, played by their original actors. DJ and producer Fatboy Slim will be making an appearance in an unknown form and the series director has shown interest in a cameo from the comedian Dara Ó Briain.
How many episodes are there?
The new series will have a six episode run, as did the first two. Staying with their usual format, the episodes are expected to come in at an hour long slot.
What is the plot?
Teasing fans, Nicola Couglin has said the storylines “are the best we’ve ever done”. A lot of things are still left to be wrapped up, including a potential romance between James and Erin along with how the ceasefire in the city will affect the group.
When will it air?
Despite all the hype and anticipation, Channel 4 has still to give an official air date other than simply saying the show is "coming soon". Fans are speculating a summer 2022 release date but nothing has been set in stone.
