Derry Girls feature on special Smash Hits magazine edition ahead of final series

Smash Hits magazine is back after a 16-year break – with our very own Derry girls and the wee English fella on the front cover.

The popular teens’ mag was a favourite of the late 70s, 80s and 90s, but published its last issue in 2006 with Ordinary Boys singer Preston on the front cover.

Famous for featuring the lyrics of the latest hits and interviews with big names in music, the magazine helped propel the careers of Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovon, Britney Spears and Oasis, among others.

Special one off editions of the magazines have been published since, with Bauer Media Group, including Michael Jackson, Take That, Lady Gaga, and Max Martin.

Derry Girls (and boy) Erin, Michelle, Claire, Orla and James are the latest to get the special treatment ahead of the third and final season which starts next week.

Chief Content Officer at Bauer Media, Lucie Cave, said she was "super excited and proud of our special collab" with Channel 4 for the magazine.

Creator Lisa McGee and broadcaster Channel 4 are set to unveil the last hurrah when it hits our TV screens at 9:15pm on Tuesday, April 12.

Meanwhile, speaking recently about the final season, Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan described how her journey playing Claire Delvin has been nothing short of “mad”.

Speaking to the PA news agency, she said: “It’s a weird thing, grief, saying goodbye to a character.

"It’s a really strange thing that’s very hard to explain to people. I mean, Clare Devlin is a mess, but I love her and I will miss her very much,” she adds, referencing her academically ambitious character.

“I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to fully say goodbye in my head."
