Derry Girls fans all saying the same thing about Tommy Tiernan’s last dance in the final episode

Fans are all saying the same thing about Tommy Tiernan’s last dance in the final episode of Derry Girls.

Tuesday night saw the closing chapter on one of the most loved shows in TV history.

In the hit Channel 4 sitcom, set during the Troubles, Tiernan plays Gerry Quinn, the long time suffering “Da” of teen idol Erin played by Saoirse-Monica Jackson.

In the one-hour finale episode “The Agreement” which aired last night, the girls were getting ready to cast their vote in their local polling stations for the Good Friday Agreement referendum, which fell on the same day as Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson) and Orla's (Louisa Harland) 18th birthday.

Many people took to Twitter to praise Tommy’s wild dancing and requested he is honoured as a national treasure.

In a short clip shared on Twitter, Tommy can be seen giving it socks as Gerry Quinn with Colm and cousin Eamon (Ardal O’Hanlon).

One fan said: “A moment of appreciation for Tommy Tiernan’s dance moves in tonight’s #DerryGirls.”

Another said: “Can we elevate @Tommedian to national treasure status yet? #DerryGirls #tommytiernan”

Tommy can be seen giving his all as he hilariously moves his hand's side to side to the sound of The Commitments.

A third said: “This scene - pure comedy gold. The trousers rolling, Gerry’s dancing and then a few mins later, absolutely weeping. That’s how to create powerful TV. ”

While another fan said: “He really should take that routine on to @bbcstrictly it was hysterical.”

The girls, their friends and their families are all smiles as they let their hair down for Orla and Erin’s joint 18th birthday party.

Fans online could hardly believe their eyes and were gobsmacked to see a surprise cameo towards the end of the bonus finale episode.

The surprise heartwarming cameo was none other than Chelsea Clinton, 42, the daughter of former US President Bill Clinton and former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Back in season two, Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), Orla (Louisa Harland), Clare (Nicola Coughlan) and Michelle (Jamie-Lee O'Donnell), and James (Dylan Llewellyn) wrote to the writer and global health advocate.

The girls never got a response, but during the finale, a scene from the present in New York shows a postman ringing Chelsea’s doorbell and handing her the letter saying: “Sorry mam, sorry to disturb you, we discovered some old mail, it was intercepted on route to the white house back in the ’90s, and somehow lost its way.”

The creator of the show Lisa McGee wrote a letter to Chelsea Clinton as a young teen when the former US president Bill Clinton was visiting Northern Ireland in 1995.

Lisa extended an invitation to her to go to the cinema with her friends, while Lisa and Chelsea never had the opportunity to do so back then.

It appears over 30 years later, both writers finally had the chance to connect.

As far as the series goes Derry Girls is comedy gold.
