Riga are in town to play them in the first leg of their first round qualifier for the Europa Conference League.

The match kicks off tonight at the Ryan McBride Brandywell at 7:45 pm. It will not be shown live on TV but it is available to stream on LOITV here.

Earlier in the week Ruaidhrí Higgins spoke about the challenge that their well-resourced opponents will provide.

He said: "It's very tough, they’re a good side and very well backed financially. They don't get massive crowds but they’ve good resources and a lot of good players.

"If you look at the pedigree of some of their players and the profile and where they've been, they have a lot of real talent and we’ll have to be at our very best to get through the tie."

Derry, at least, are motoring again after halting a recent poor run of results in the Premier Division.

Having marched to the top of the table, the Foylesiders tailed off without a win for seven games but their 3-2 victory at Bohemians - was their second on the spin, having also beaten UCD seven days earlier.

"I think people can read a lot into results," said Higgins, who started without Brandon Kavanagh and Jamie McGonigle, who will be fresh for tonight.

"We were seven without a win, but when you actually sit back from a football perspective and analyse those games, there were a lot of them we deserved a lot more from, we just didn't take our chances.

"We’ve scored three goals here but in other games – Drogheda at home, St Pat’s at home where we drew, those two games are just jumping out at me – it should have been over very early on and we created a lot more chances in those games than we've done here and we've scored three goals.

"So it's just converting our chances."
