Derry and Strabane residents could be entitled to £100 fuel payment under new scheme

Constituents of Derry City and Strabane council who find themselves in need of support this winter due to soaring energy prices will be able to get £100 towards their fuel bills, as long as they meet a range of criteria approved by the Health and Community Committee.

There was unanimous support from all parties for the scheme, with members agreeing that council should do all they can to help those in need with £100 granted towards home heating oil, and electricity top up and two £49 top ups for gas.

The Hardship Fund of £258,000 is scheduled to open in the week beginning October 17 and anyone in need of assistance can contact local support organisations in the DEAs, any of the three advice service partners who are in receipt of a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the council or self refer to have eligibility checked.
