Derrick Henry talks future with Titans after Texans loss

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry had the worst game of his career since becoming a starter in Week 15 after tallying just nine yards on 16 carries in a 19-16 overtime loss to the Houston Texans.

Henry was completely ineffective and deserves some of the blame, as he simply doesn’t have the same burst or vision we’ve seen over the years, something that has been prevalent all season long.

In fact, it’s gotten to the point where it’s clear the Titans should be giving rookie back Tyjae Spears more opportunities, as he continues to be more effective.

But the performance wasn’t all on Henry, as the offensive line was terrible and offensive coordinator Tim Kelly continued to feed him the rock, even though it clearly wasn’t working.

After the loss that also eliminated Tennessee from playoff contention, Henry, who is a free agent in 2024, was asked if he’s given some thought to the possibility that he might be playing his last three games with the Titans.

The star running back admitted he has.

“Yeah, definitely today you had that feeling,” Henry said, per John Glennon of Nashville Post. “We had a hope of kind of slipping in [the playoffs], and then [we were] eliminated, knowing it’s three games left. I’ve been here my whole career. I definitely want to go out strong, which isn’t the case. Just trying to give it my all these last three games and leave it all on the field.”

As difficult as it is to say this, the Titans need to seriously consider moving on from Henry after this season and move to an offense that is centered around quarterback Will Levis.

It has been an incredible run for one of the greatest players in franchise history, but all good things must come to an end.
