Dermot O'Leary leaves Alison Hammond in stitches with King Charles impression on This Morning

Dermot O’Leary left his co-host Alison Hammond in stitches, as he did an accurate King Charles III impression.

The This Morning presenters were discussing Coronation Street legend Bill Roache getting an OBE from the new monarch, when Alison, 47, urged Dermot, 49, to do his impression.

“Sixty years on Coronation Street,” Alison said, as they reflected on the Ken Barlow actor’s career, “he started in 1960. He should have a knighthood don’t you think?”

“And he’s still working!” the guest added, as Dermot said: “Well that’s what King Charles said to him apparently.”

Before Alison urged him to read out King Charles’ comments to Bill “in the accent.” Dermot hesitated, as Alison did a little giggle.

Then the former X-Factor presenter launched into his best King Charles impression, that was incredibly accurate. He continued: “King Charles said ‘working still are you? Working?’”

Alison laughed as Dermot returned to his normal voice and continued: “To which Bill said yes, I’ve just had two ex-girlfriends on the show, which for Coronation Street isn’t bad.”

Fans loved the brief impression of the royal, as a viewer tweeted: “More King Charles impressions please @radioleary.”

Thursday’s instalment of the ITV daytime show also saw Alison defend Meghan Markle for her behaviour during her mental health struggles.

In Prince Harry and Meghan’s new documentary, the Duchess of Sussex opened up about her suicidal thoughts in the past and how that contributed on their decision to leave royal life.

Camilla Tominey said that the latest three episodes felt “one-sided” as the couple told their version of events, when past employees had accused Meghan and Harry of “bullying” behind the scenes.

However, Alison came to Meghan’s defence as she explained that when people are struggling with severe depression, their behaviour can be misinterpreted as they aren’t feeling or acting as their best self.

“Obviously when all of this happened, [Meghan] was going through mental health issues,” Alison began, “and I’m sure when you’re going through mental health issues, you’re not going to be the nicest behind the scenes and that could come across as bullying to some people.”
