Dermot O'Leary 'absolutely mortified' over This Morning blunder

Stepping in for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield Dermot O'Leary did not have a smooth start to This Morning on Monday, May 1. A mishap left him "absolutely mortified" as he was joined by his normal co-presenter Alison Hammond.

Starting off the show by talking about gardening in a mock garden set up Dermot ended up knocking over a terracotta pot. Alison said: "What have you broke now? Oh no the flower pot!" while Dermot apologised.

He exclaimed: "I am absolutely mortified! I am so sorry...I didn't know they were real! Nothing in this studio is real!" You can keep up to date with the latest TV and showbiz news by signing up to the newsletter here.

The crew then continued to take the mickey out of Dermot for the rest of the introduction by putting crash noises on in the background. Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page is joining the This Morning team in May 2023.

She will be hosting a brand new mini-series, called Set Jetting, which will see her travel across the UK and Europe next month to locations featured in movies and on telly. The four-part series will feature locations for films and TV shows including Harry Potter, Troy, The Railway Children, Gladiator, Paddington, Downton Abbey, The Crown and James Bond.

Joanna has worked with some members of the This Morning cast before including Dermot O'Leary, who hosts the show on Fridays alongside Alison Hammond, having co-hosted ITV's The Pet Show with him. Her other presenting credits include Shop Well For Less and in 2022 she appeared on The Masked Dancer as Pig - however, many fans did not recognise her when she was unmasked.

Speaking to The Mirror, Joanna explained the Gavin & Stacey connection to her new job. She said: “Gavin & Stacey put Barry Island on the map when it burst onto our screens in 2007 and in the UK – and apparently almost half of us would consider visiting a destination after seeing it on a show or movie."
