A BLAZE that consumed a derelict house early on Monday morning was being treated as suspicious, NSW Police said.

Emergency services were called at around 6.10am on Monday September 9 to reports of an unoccupied single-story house on fire on Wine Country Drive at North Rothbury.

NSW Police, Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) and the Rural Fire Services (RFS) attended the scene.

Hunter Valley police said forensic services and detectives were investigating the events surrounding the fire and were attempting to identify the cause.

Police said the blaze was extinguished within two hours by the local fire services.

FRNSW said they deployed three hoses to douse the flames at 6.45am and had completed the job by 7.49pm.

The RFS said there were 22 personnel in attendance between their crews and FRNSW.

While RFS and FRNSW managed to put out the flames, the RFS were still patrolling the scene to make sure there were no further flare ups.

The RFS said they were combing through the surrounding area along with police to determine the cause of the fire.

NSW Police were urging anyone with information related to the cause of the fire to contact Hunter Valley Police District or crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or on the Crimestoppers online reporting page at www.police.nsw.gov.au.
