Derek McInnes was frustrated as his Kilmarnock side failed to see out their 1-0 lead against Motherwell but the manager believes his players can take plenty of positives from the nature of the display.
The home side took the lead through Scott Robinson early on in the first half and they managed the game well thereafter, eventually having to settle for a point after Callum Slattery equalised at the death with a sublimely-struck free-kick.
“I think it’s a sore one,” said McInnes. “We were only 1-0 up and a lot of times this season we have been guilty of not taking opportunities to get away from teams and put the game to bed.
“I felt it was a case in point in the first half. I thought we were very strong in the performance and we managed the game great until the last five minutes or so. While it is only 1-0 the opposition are going to throw things.
“The one thing we were guilty of was a wee bit of naivety, giving away one too many fouls in the last five minutes. All it does is give them another opportunity to sail the ball forward and make it a fight.
“We gave that foul away at the end there and there are two parts to it. We give them a free hit – although Slattery still had a lot to do – but there are players in every team in this league who are capable of doing that.
“Every team has got a player of that quality and from a Motherwell point of view, you would have to say that that moment of quality has earned them the point.”
