Derek Hough and his fiancé Hayley Erbert were involved in a ‘scary’ car accident earlier this month.
The Dancing with the Stars professionals, who are grieving the tragic loss of their friend Stephen ‘TWitch’ Boss who died by suicide this month, revealed the horrific details of their vehicle crash on Instagram.
Taking to the social media platform on Friday, 37-year-old Hough, and 28-year-old Erbert posted a video speaking about the ordeal, which occurred on 12 December, to their followers.
Captioning the video post, Hayley wrote: “On December 12, Derek and I got into a pretty scary car accident in the mountains.
Hayley went on to tell all 523,000 of her followers about how the accident came about: “Our accident involved a steep hill, icy roads, a tree, and worst of all, the fear that we would slide off the mountain.
“Given the circumstances, we have so much to be grateful for. First, that there were no other people involved. Second, the quick response from paramedics. And lastly, that we are both okay and that I only walked away a little banged up, a swollen face, and four stitches above my eyebrow.
“Now, more than ever, we realise how fragile life is and how important it is to love those around you. We hope that everyone has a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season,” she concluded.
Derek then took to the comments section beneath the post to share his recollection of the crash, writing: “The scariest part was that Hayley doesn’t remember anything.
“She was dazed afterwards, being cheerful saying we should keep going to dinner as blood ran down her face.
“That really scared me,' he said. “She came to 20 minutes later when the firemen arrived.”
The pair’s video montage showed a fire engine, as well as Hayley’s blood-stained face after their car crashed against a tree.
Derek asked in the video: “What do you do after you get in a car accident?” whilst filming Hailey recovering. ”You go to the emergency room.”
Hayley then explained how she underwent stitches before revealing that there was ‘nowhere to eat’, so the couple instead opted to get ‘tons of snacks’ from a nearby shop.
They then showcased their impressive collection of snacks, which included pepperoni pizza, sweets and crisps.
“One of the saddest things about tonight,' Hayley concluded at the end of the video, “is that I can't chew candy.”
