Derek Hough struggled to find the perfect song for his and Hayley Erbert's 'Dancing With the Stars' performance.
The brunette beauty suffered a cranial hematoma at the end of 2023, and Derek put a lot of thought and care into the song he selected for their emotional performance on the TV show.
The 39-year-old dancer - who ultimately chose to dance to 'Beautiful Things' by Benson Boone - told Us Weekly: "It’s funny because when I was trying to think of a song, I was actually kind of struggling, to be honest with you. Then I heard this rendition.
"It was a very stripped down version."
Derek was determined to add a little bit of "emotion" to the track.
He explained: "I was like, ‘Wait, I feel like I’m hearing the song for the first time.’ I’ve heard this song so many times - it is almost overplayed. But it’s a great song and then I heard this.
"I was like, ‘Wait, I’m actually hearing the lyrics and the lyrics are kind of telling the story so beautifully.’ So then I added strings and violins and cellos to add a little bit more emotion in there."
Derek previously hailed his wife as a medical "miracle".
The TV star - who married Hayley last year - told E! News: "She's a miracle. She really is and I don't say that lightly."
Derek also revealed that he'd love to start a family with his wife.
Derek - who first appeared on 'Dancing With the Stars' back in 2007 - said: "We definitely want to have a family eventually.
"We'll see what's in the cards, what's on the horizon. Little dancing children running around."
