Derek Chisora weighs in wearing Boris Johnson mask in support of PM

Derek Chisora weighed in for his fight with Kubrat Pulev wearing a Boris Johnson mask after declaring he was a fan of the departing Prime Minister.

Chisora tipped the scales at just over 258lb for his rematch with Pulev, which will take place at The O2 arena in London tomorrow night. But he shocked fans when he emerged to the stage wearing a Boris Johnson mask, while also flying little Union Jack flags in honour of the Prime Minister, who announced his resignation yesterday.

The Tory leader will go through the motions for the next few weeks as he is forced to watch his party choose his successor after announcing he will leave his post. He has proven a controversial leader since taking the position in 2019, but Chisora insists that he was a fan of the Prime Minister, as well as Brexit

"I've got more pressure right now because Boris Johnson left No.10," Chisora joked at his pre-fight press conference with Pulev yesterday. "That's more pressure for me. I was a big fan of Boris Johnson, I'm a big Brexit fan, I love the Brexit. I was partly one of the members of Brexit, so I'm all about those things that bring pressure to life."

Johnson's resignation came during a speech to supporters and onlookers outside No.10 Downing Street yesterday, where he declared the party would need a new leader. “It is clearly now the will of the parliamentary Conservative Party that there should be a new leader of that party and therefore a new prime minister," he said.

"As we have seen at Westminster … when the herd moves, it moves. And my friends, in politics, no one is remotely indispensable. I know there are many people who are relieved, and perhaps quite a few who will also be disappointed. I want you to know how sad I am to be giving up the best job in the world. But them’s the breaks." It is unknown yet who will replace Johnson as leader of his party and Prime Minister.

Chisora will have to leave politics out of his mind heading into tomorrow's fight with Pulev as he looks to snap a three-fight losing streak at The O2 arena in London. He and Pulev fought to a split decision in 2016, but he feels he is an improved fighter, and insists he doesn't have an eye on retirement just yet.

The Brit's three losses came twice against Joseph Parker, a former world heavyweight champion, and Oleksandr Usyk over the past two years. Usyk is now the unified champion and considered one of the pound-for-pound great fighters in the world, but he was taken the distance in a tough test by Chisora.
