Derecognised SGFI uses govt emblem to collect money from students for World Gymnasiade

NEW DELHI: The School Games Federation of India (SGFI) seems to have courted a new controversy. Despite being derecognised by the Union sports ministry in December 2020, the school sports body, allegedly, has continued to use the emblem of the Government of India as well as the logo of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) on its letterheads to collect crores of rupees as the participation fee from students for competing in the 19th ISF World School Gymnasiade in France’s Normandy from May 14 to 22.

The move has been called out by the ministry, which has written to the sports departments as well as the education secretariats of the state governments and union territories (UTs) informing them about the same. The Gymnasiade is the world’s biggest school sports event which will attract participation from more than 70 countries. The SGFI is planning to send a 230-member strong contingent, including 170 students.
