Deptford murder: Man, 21, stabbed to death in south-east London as police make arrests

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 21-year-old man was stabbed to death in a residential street in south-east London.

Police and paramedics were called to Carteret Way, Deptford, shortly after 10.30pm on Thursday to reports of a stabbing.

Medics tried to save the victim, a man believed to be in his 20s, but he died at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed, said police.

“Two males have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody,” said a Met spokesperson on Friday morning.

“A crime scene remains in place.”

Scotland Yard urged anyone with information about the stabbing to get in touch.

Police tape and several police cars could be seen at the scene on Deptford’s Pepys Estate, with more arriving on scene on Friday morning.

A nearby business owner, who did not give their name, told of their shock describing it as “crazy”, adding: “Nowhere is safe.”

Another resident, who was waiting for a bus near to the scene and also did not want to be named, said: “I was just in my house and there so many police late last night. I don’t know what happened. I was at work at two, my husband came back from work and saw loads of police.

“The police were there until 2am. It’s the first time this happened, I’ve been here for a year.”Anyone with information at this early stage is asked to call police on 101 or ‘X’ @MetCC and quote CAD8733/6June. You can also provide information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
